Well, cholo does basically means a guy who's mixed Mexican and American, but the word is actually pretty derogatory because it also implies that the guy is a bit of a thug. I first heard the word in the movie "Quinceanera". When I first heard it, I thought it was a variation of chulo, another Spanish word that's entered American English (a little). Chulo means a guy who's very hot. It can also mean handsome or cute, but I believe it's mostly used to mean a guy that's extremely attractive. Perhaps in some guy's minds, the two words are nearly synonymous!
